Jeremiah’s journey continues into Week 22 of our year-long Bible reading adventure. We will delve into Chapter 18, where Jeremiah is instructed to visit a potter’s house. There, he observes the potter shaping and reshaping clay, symbolizing God’s sovereignty and his power to mold and transform nations as He desires. This illustration serves as a vivid reminder of the need for the Israelites to repent and turn back to God.

While Jeremiah earnestly pleads with the people to repent, he endures mistreatment and hardships. He calls out to God, who indeed hears him. Even so, God continues to appoint Jeremiah as a prophet, delivering messages that include calls to repentance, warnings of judgement, and declarations of God’s divine authority.

Chapter 23 stands out as a beacon of hope. Jeremiah conveys the message that even in the face of persistent sin, a remnant of Israelites will be preserved, keeping the promise of a righteous branch of David alive. Many Christians see this promise fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who is considered the Savior.

Jeremiah’s prophecies return to the theme of impending judgement and disaster if repentance remains elusive. He also urges the Israelites to acknowledge the truth amidst false prophecies.

From here, the narrative takes a more optimistic turn. Jeremiah reveals that the Babylonian captivity will last 70 years, offering a specific timeframe. He also foretells the establishment of a new covenant. Many modern Christians associate this new covenant with the advent of Jesus, which has brought new hope and salvation to believers.
