A Prayer for Hope and Faith
Dear Heavenly Father,
I humbly come before you to offer a prayer for hope in despair, acknowledging the profound truth of Psalm 62:1 (ESV), which proclaims, “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.” It is an unwavering reality that you are the source of solace and deliverance, even when despair clouds my heart. Please help me find encouragement from the Psalms. Help me to find hope and faith in difficult times.
When my days are filled with good health and praise from those around me, it’s effortless to declare, “God is good.” However, when health falters, when life’s challenges grow, and when family issues weigh upon me, I may falter and question, “Why have you forsaken me?” Do I have reason to expect only goodness in this life?
The Psalms provide a resounding answer to this question: “No!” This truth is exemplified in the life of David, who was marked by numerous trials, some a consequence of his own choices, others unrelated. At times, it was Saul’s transgressions that caused David’s tribulations, while in other instances, David’s own shortcomings brought about his struggles. He chose to overcome despair through faith!
The complexities of life often involve circumstances beyond our control, such as health issues like autoimmune diseases. Yet, there are situations where our choices have played a part in our challenges, where proper nutrition and exercise could have averted suffering. In all these instances, we must bear the consequences of living in a world marked by imperfections. I need to better learn how to trust in God’s plan and find joy in God!
As I reflect on trials and tribulations that come from issues in my own health, my inclination may be to sink into self-pity and despair. But Psalm 62:11b-12a (ESV) declares, “power belongs to God, and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.” You, O God, possess the power to alleviate suffering, yet at times, you choose to grant the strength to endure. It seems that, for this moment, you have chosen endurance. Help me, Lord, to endure and persevere in faith. Sometimes it is so hard to trust in your timing, but this is essential in my quest to find joy. Help me to be assured of your love! Help me to find my joy in you! I want to trust in your plan!
In the name of Your Son, Jesus, I offer this prayer. Amen.
