During week 16 of reading through the Bible in a year, we will finish the Gospel According to Luke and begin the book of Exodus.

Journey with Luke: Miracles, Trials, and Resurrection

Luke is my favorite of the gospels. It is beautifully written and highlights Jesus’ ministry, miracles, and teachings. Since Luke was a doctor, it is no surprise that many of the miracles that he chose to write about had to do with healing. When I think about all the advancements that have been made in medicine over the last 2,000 years, I can only imagine what Luke thought as he watched illness after illness being completely cured! The end of Luke deals with Jesus’ betrayal, prayers, arrest, trial, death, and resurrection. What glorious news is it that not only can Jesus heal his own death, but he can heal ours as well. If we put our trust in Jesus, there is nothing that the devil can do to us that will end up being permanent!

Exploring the Exodus: From Slavery to Salvation

Leaving Luke and going back into the Old Testament, we will read the first three chapters of Exodus. The book of Genesis ended with the Israelites being placed in a position of power within Egypt, but this is quickly followed by resentment and slavery of the Israelites in Exodus. God sees their suffering and starts the process of salvation by rescuing baby Moses and lifting him into a place where he has influence over the Pharaoh of Egypt. When I experience suffering, I can remember that no matter how long it lasts, God knows and will not leave me there forever. Luke assures of of that!
