Life in this world is often heavy, filled with burdens we did not ask for and uncertainties we cannot control. Yet, scripture reminds us that those who belong to the Lord are not left to carry these loads alone. God offers us strength when we are weary, dignity when we feel overlooked, and joy even in the face of the unknown. We are invited to draw near to the one who clothes his people with grace and steadies them with peace, to draw near the God who calls us to laugh at the days to come, not because they are easy, but because he is faithful.
A Prayer Based on Proverbs 31:25

Dear Heavenly Father,
You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). You clothe yourself in majesty and light, ruling with wisdom, mercy, and might. In every season, you remain faithful. We see your strength when you part the seas, calm the storms, and raise the brokenhearted. We see your dignity in how you tenderly care for the weak and the outcast, lifting up the humble and restoring those the world has cast aside. And we see your joy in creation itself, in singing birds, blooming flowers, and the steady turning of seasons that declare your faithfulness.
Father, we confess that we do not always wear these virtues well. When we try to be strong, we sometimes grow harsh or stubborn. When we seek dignity, we are tempted to chase the approval of others rather than the honor that comes from you alone. And too often, instead of greeting the future with laughter and joy, we meet it with anxiety and fear. Forgive us, Lord, for the ways we trust in our own strength and for the times we forget your promises.
Thank you, gracious God, for being patient with us. Thank you for your son, Jesus Christ, who showed perfect strength in his gentleness, perfect dignity in his humility, and perfect hope as he entrusted himself to your will. Because of him, we can approach each day knowing we are clothed in garments of salvation and covered in robes of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10).
We ask that, like the Proverbs 31 woman, you would clothe us, too, with strength and dignity. Not the kind that puffs up or isolates, but the kind that builds others up and brings glory to your name. Help us face the unknown with confidence, knowing that you hold all our days. Teach us to laugh at the time to come, not because life is always easy, but because we belong to you, the one who never fails.
For those carrying heavy burdens today, grant them your peace. Whether theyhave worries about health, finances, relationships, or uncertain futures, remind them that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). May we all find rest in your unchanging care.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
