A Prayer for Wisdom and Strength in Work

A Prayer for Wisdom and Strength in Work

Life is full of decisions, both large and small, and each one carries its own weight. Whether managing a household, making financial choices, or navigating the demands of daily work, it is easy to feel the pressure of responsibility and the pull of worry. Yet, God, in his kindness, does not leave us to sort it out alone. He offers wisdom to those who ask and strength to those who lean on him. This prayer is a quiet invitation to turn to the Lord in the midst of daily tasks, asking him to shape our hearts, steady our hands, and teach us to manage what he has entrusted to us with courage, wisdom, and grace.

A Prayer Based on Proverbs 31:16-17

Proverbs 31:16-17 (ESV): She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are the author of wisdom and the giver of strength. You hold all things together by the word of your power, and nothing escapes your notice. The earth belongs to you and all that fills it, and in your kindness, you have entrusted us with responsibilities, opportunities, and decisions that shape our lives and the lives of those around us. I praise you for your sovereignty and for the way you care for both the grand movements of history and the quiet moments of daily work.

Lord, I confess that I often feel overwhelmed by the weight of choices, especially in matters of provision, work, and caring for others. My heart leans toward worry rather than trust. Too often, I make decisions based on fear or convenience instead of seeking your wisdom. Forgive me for the times I have depended on my own understanding and ignored your invitation to trust in you with all my heart. Forgive me for neglecting the responsibilities you have given me or for shrinking back when you called me to act with strength and courage.

Thank you, Father, for the resources, skills, and opportunities you place in my life. Thank you for the ability to think, plan, and work. I am grateful for the people you have placed around me — in my home, workplace, and community — and for the ways you invite us to partner with you in cultivating what is good and lasting.

I ask for wisdom, Lord. Give me discernment in financial decisions, whether large or small. Help me to steward what you have entrusted to me in a way that honors you and blesses others. Grant me strength in both body and mind, that I may face my work with energy and resilience. Strengthen my hands for the tasks ahead and my heart for the challenges that come with them. Let me not be easily discouraged or distracted.

Give me courage to manage my responsibilities faithfully, whether in my home, in my work, or in my relationships. Like the woman in Proverbs 31, may I consider my options carefully, act decisively, and trust you with the outcomes. Teach me to dress myself with strength — not a strength that boasts in itself, but one that rests in your sustaining grace.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
