A Prayer for Trusting in God’s Plans

A Prayer for Trusting in God's Plans

A Prayer

Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV): "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Dear Heavenly Father,

When life gets hard, it is so difficult to trust that you are walking beside me and that you have my best interests at heart. I get so discouraged! But Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that you are patient, purposeful, and faithful—even when we struggle to see it. You are the God who sees the end from the beginning, the one who holds all of history in his hands. Nothing escapes your notice. Nothing is outside your control.

I confess that I often lose perspective. My prayers grow impatient. My heart grows weary. I grumble and question instead of resting in your promises. When healing doesn’t come, when prayers seem unanswered, or when leaders make decisions that cause harm rather than good, I begin to doubt your presence and your plan. Forgive me, Lord, for thinking you have forgotten or that you are indifferent to our pain.

Thank you for your faithfulness throughout generations. The Israelites endured decades in exile, but you never abandoned them. You sent prophets to remind them of your love, and in your perfect timing, you brought them home. And even more miraculously, you sent your son—not just to free a nation, but to rescue the whole world. That was your long game. You are still writing the story.

So I place my small part of the story in your hands. My suffering may be minor in the scope of eternity, but it feels heavy some days. Please strengthen me to carry it with grace. Encourage my spirit when it falters. Heal my body if it be your will. Draw my loved ones back to you, and give wisdom and humility to those in positions of leadership. Come, Jesus, come—not only to bring final restoration, but to walk with us now as our comforter and king.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
