Summary of the Passage
This passage tells about a time when Jesus went to a town called Nain. A large group of people was with him. As Jesus came near the town’s gate, a funeral procession was coming out. The dead man was the only son of a woman whose husband had already died. Many people from the town were walking with her because she was very sad.
When Jesus saw the woman, he felt deep pity for her. He told her not to cry. Then Jesus went to the coffin and touched it. The people carrying the coffin stopped walking. Jesus spoke to the dead man and told him to get up. Right away, the man sat up and began to talk. Jesus gave him back to his mother, making her very happy.
The people who saw this miracle were very surprised and afraid. They began to praise God and said a great prophet was among them. They believed God had come to help his people. News about Jesus and what he did spread to the towns and places all around.
This passage teaches us that Jesus cares deeply about people who are hurting. It shows that Jesus has power over death and can give life. Jesus sees our pain and wants to bring hope and help to those in need.

Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son
Luke 7:11-17 (GNT)
11 Soon afterward Jesus went to a town named Nain, accompanied by his disciples and a large crowd.
12 Just as he arrived at the gate of the town, a funeral procession was coming out. The dead man was the only son of a woman who was a widow, and a large crowd from the town was with her.
13 When the Lord saw her, his heart was filled with pity for her, and he said to her, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he walked over and touched the coffin, and the men carrying it stopped. Jesus said, “Young man! Get up, I tell you!”
15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 They all were filled with fear and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us!” they said; “God has come to save his people!”
17 This news about Jesus went out through all the country and the surrounding territory.
