We live in a culture that celebrates infinite choices and personal truths, but such a fragmented world often leaves us feeling scattered and divided within ourselves. It is easy to feel as though our lives are split into pieces, with our faith on one side and our daily anxieties on the other. This prayer is grounded in the powerful declaration of unity found in Ephesians 4:4-6 and is a call to return to the singular foundation of our faith. As we seek to follow Jesus, we will find that our greatest source of contentment and joy comes from recognizing that we serve one God and Father who is over all and in all. When we align our hearts with his constancy, the noise of the world begins to fade, and we find a firm place to stand.

A Prayer
Dear Father,
I adore you for being constant, unchanging, and fully unified in every aspect of your being and character. You are the one true God, the Creator of all things, and the sustainer of every breath I take. Your authority is absolute, and your nature is perfect. I praise you for being the God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. You are not a god made by human hands or defined by human imagination, but the living Lord who reigns over Heaven and Earth. I worship you for the harmony of your triune being and for the singular hope you have provided for your people.
I confess that I do not have this same constancy and unity in my being. One day I believe one thing, the next I believe another. I am truly sorry for my double-mindedness and for the way I allow my emotions to dictate my theology. Worse, I sometimes doubt the truth of your character when life becomes difficult or confusing. The world tells us that we should accept the belief that I should follow my God and others should follow their god, but this is not unity, it is denial. I confess that I have sometimes stayed silent in the face of this confusion, choosing the path of least resistance rather than the path of truth. I have let my heart be divided by the pressures of the culture around me.
Thank you for giving us your word, the Bible. Thank you for letting it be a light to my path and for leading me towards salvation. I am so grateful that you have not left us to wander in the dark, but have clearly revealed yourself through your Spirit. Thank you for the unity of the church and for the truth found in Ephesians 4:4-6 (ESV): “There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Thank you that because of Jesus, I can belong to this one body and share in this one hope.
Help me to put my trust in you and to be a light to those who are running as far away from you as they can get. I ask that you would grant me a deep and steady joy that comes from knowing the truth of who you are. Help me to find contentment in your singular Lordship, refusing to be pulled away by the many distractions of this life. Give me the courage to stand firm in the one faith and the wisdom to share that faith with kindness and clarity. Please unify my heart so that I can follow Jesus with a single-minded devotion.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Reflect
Consider the following reflection questions:
- In what area of your life do you feel most divided or inconsistent right now?
- How does it give you peace to know that there is only one God who is over all and in all?
- Why is it so tempting to follow the world’s idea that every truth is valid instead of clinging to the one faith proclaimed in the Bible?
- What is one way the Bible has been a light to your path during a time of confusion lately?
- How can you share the one hope you have in Christ with someone who seems to be running away from him?
Respond
Please pray a prayer about following one Lord and having one faith.
If you aren’t sure where to begin, you can use the ACTS prayer method: Adoration, Confession, Thankfulness, and Supplication:
- Adoration: Praise God. Does this verse bring any specific characteristics of God to mind?
- Confession: Tell God that you are sorry for specific sins. Does this verse bring any specific sins to mind?
- Thankfulness: Show gratitude towards God. Does anything from this verse inspire gratitude?
- Supplication: Make requests for yourself and for others. Does anything from this verse inspire a prayer?
If helpful, you can use a prayer journal template.
