ELL Resources: 28 Prayer Ideas for the Month of February

English Language Learner (ELL) Resources: 28 Prayer Ideas for the Month of February

February is a month often associated with love. This prayer guide is written in easy English specifically for language learners to help you strengthen your faith while you practice your vocabulary. Whether you are new to the faith or just learning the language, this guide is here to help you grow.

To use this guide, you should read one verse each day, reflect on the questions, and use the daily prayer to speak to God. Using these encouraging Bible verses will help you learn how to communicate with him. When we pray, we can tell God we love him, apologize for our mistakes, thank him for the good things in our lives, and ask him for help. This simple routine will help you feel more confident as you read the Bible and practice your English.

ACTS Prayer Method

Prayer is a time where you can talk to God. You can use the ACTS method when you pray each day:

  • A — Adoration (Praise God)
  • C — Confession (Say sorry for wrong things)
  • T — Thankfulness (Thank God)
  • S — Supplication (Ask for help for you or others)

If helpful, you can use a prayer journal template.

Week 1: Learning to Love Others

This week we will focus on how we treat the people around us. In the Bible, Jesus teaches that the most important thing a person can do is love God and love other people. Love is not just a feeling. It is an action. We show love by being kind, even when we are tired or when people are mean to us. This helps us live in peace with our neighbors and friends.

Review these vocabulary words to help you with this week’s readings.

  1. Bitter — Feeling angry or unhappy because of something bad that happened.
  2. Compassion — A feeling of wanting to help someone who is suffering.
  3. Enemies — People who hate you or want to hurt you.
  4. Forgive — To stop being angry at someone who did something wrong.

Day 1: Love Each Other

Bible Verse:
All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other. – John 13:35 (ERV)

About This Verse:
This verse comes from a time when Jesus was eating a final meal with his closest friends, called disciples. He wanted them to know that being a Christian is not just about words. It is about how we treat each other.

Think About:
How can people tell you are a follower of Jesus?
Who is one person you can show love to today?
Why is love more important than just talking about faith?

Talk to God:
Dear God,
You are the source of all true love.
I am sorry for the times I am selfish and do not love others.
Thank you for showing me how to be a good friend.
Please help me show love to everyone I meet today.
Amen.

Day 2: Be Kind and Forgive

Bible Verse:
Never be bitter, angry, or mad. Never shout angrily or say things to hurt others. Never do anything evil. Be kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other the same as God forgave you through Christ. – Ephesians 4:31-32 (ERV)

About This Verse:
This letter was written to help new Christians learn how to live together. In Christianity, we believe that because God forgives our mistakes, we must also forgive the mistakes of others.

Think About:
What are three bad feelings we should stop having?
Why should we forgive other people?
What is one kind thing you can say to someone today?

Talk to God:
Dear God,
You are very kind and you always forgive us.
I confess that I sometimes say mean things when I am angry.
Thank you for forgiving my sins because of Jesus.
Help me to be kind and forgive the people who hurt my feelings.

Do you know someone who is sad right now?
How can you show a friend that you care about their feelings?

What happens in your heart when you pray for an enemy?
Why does God want us to love even people who treat us badly?

Why is it hard to pray for leaders we do not like?
What does a “quiet and peaceful life” look like to you?

Talk to God:
Dear God,
You have authority over all the kings of the earth.
I confess that I often complain about leaders instead of praying for them.
Thank you for the peace we have in our community.
Please give our rulers wisdom so they can make good and fair laws.
Amen.

Day 28: Agree with Each Other

Bible Verse:
Brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, I beg all of you to agree with each other. You should not be divided into different groups. Be completely joined together again with the same kind of thinking and the same purpose. – 1 Corinthians 1:10 (ERV)

About This Verse:
This letter was sent to a church that was fighting. They were split into different groups. The writer tells them to stop fighting and remember they are on the same team. They should have the same goal: following Jesus.

Think About:
Why is it bad for a group of people to be “divided”?
How can we have the “same purpose” even if we are different?
What can you do to help people get along better?

Talk to God:
Dear God,
You want all of your people to be one family.
I am sorry for the times I care more about being right than being kind.
Thank you for making us all different but part of the same team.
Help us to agree with each other and work together for you.
Amen.
