ELL Resources: 31 Prayer Ideas for the Month of January

ELL Resources: 31 Prayer Ideas for the Month of January

January is a great time for a fresh start. This prayer guide is written in easy English for English language learners. It will help you strengthen your faith while you practice your vocabulary. Whether you are new to the faith or just learning the language, this guide is here to help you grow. We can make it a goal to talk to God every day through prayer. Using these encouraging Bible verses will help you learn how to communicate with God.

To use this prayer guide, you should follow the daily Bible reading plan. Each day you will read one Bible verse, reflect on some questions, and use a prayer to speak to God. When we pray, we can tell God we love him, apologize for our mistakes, thank him for the good things in our lives, and ask him for help. This simple routine will help you feel more confident as you read the Bible and practice your English.

How to Pray with the ACTS Method

You can use the ACTS method when you pray each day. This is a great way to practice your English vocabulary words about faith:

  • — Adoration (Praise God)
  • C — Confession (Say sorry for wrong things)
  • — Thankfulness (Thank God)
  • S — Supplication (Ask for help for yourself or others)

If helpful, you can use a prayer journal template or my free printables to write down your thoughts and create your own daily prayer.

Day 28: God’s Amazing World

The heavens tell about the glory of God. The skies announce what his hands have made. – Psalm 19:1 (ERV)

How does nature help you remember God’s glory?

Week 5: Finishing Strong and Praising God

The daily Bible readings and prayers in final week of January will help us finish the month with strong faith and praise. We will pray to run the race of life with endurance and determination. We need to remove anything that might cause us to stumble or quit following Jesus. We will take time to praise God because he is completely holy and perfect in every way. Our prayers will finish by giving all our plans for the coming days to him. When we seek his help, he will guide us.

Week 5: English Vocabulary Words

Review these vocabulary words to help you with this week’s readings. These simple definitions are here to help you feel more confident as you read the Bible and practice your English.

  1. Goal — Something you want to achieve or do.
  2. Holy — Pure and perfect; separate from sin.
  3. Plan — An idea about what to do in the future.
  4. Race — A contest to see who can be the fastest.
  5. Successful — Accomplishing what you set out to do.

Day 29: Run the Race of Faith

Bible Verse:
We have all these great people around us as examples. Their lives tell us what faith means. So we, too, should run the race that is before us and never quit. We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall. – Hebrews 12:1 (ERV)

About This Verse:
Living a Christian life is like running a long race. We must keep going and never give up. We need to stop doing bad things (sin) that slow us down so we can finish the race well.

Think About:
What is the Christian life compared to in this verse?
What is one thing that slows you down in your faith?
How can you keep running toward Jesus today?

Talk to God:
Patient God,
You help me run my life’s race.
I confess I sometimes stop or let bad habits slow me down.
Thank you for the people who showed me how to have faith.
Please help me to get rid of my sin and keep running the race of faith until the end.
Amen.
