Most of us know the uneasy feeling that comes when the future looks uncertain or the path ahead feels unclear. Fear can rise quickly, and the desire to control every outcome can take hold before we even realize it. Deuteronomy 31:8 offers comfort in these moments by reminding us that the Lord goes before us, remains with us, and never abandons us. The words of this verse are simple, but the truth reaches deeply into our worries and invites us to find joy and contentment in the steady presence of Christ. The following prayer grows out of that promise and offers space to worship, confess, give thanks, and seek help from the one who never leaves us.

A Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
You are the God who knows all things and holds all things together. You see the roads that stretch behind me and the paths that lie ahead. Nothing in my life is hidden from your sight, and nothing surprises you. You are steady when I am restless and strong when I am weak. You guide your people with a wisdom that never falters, and you lead us with a care that is both firm and gentle.
I confess that I often forget how present you are. When fear rises or uncertainty grows, I act as though I must carry everything alone. I cling to my own plans and anxiously guard my own ideas of what security should look like. I confess that I struggle to believe your promise in Deuteronomy 31:8 (ESV): “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Forgive me for the ways I doubt this truth and for the choices I make out of worry rather than trust.
Thank you for your patience with me. Thank you for your steady presence that does not depend on my performance. Thank you for the joy you give when I remember that you have not abandoned me for a single moment. Thank you that your faithfulness stands firm even when mine wavers. I praise you for the countless ways you have gone before me, clearing paths I never saw and protecting me in ways I may never fully understand.
Please help me walk in confidence rather than fear. When I step into the unknown, teach me to remember that you step there first. When my heart grows anxious, quiet me with the truth that you will not leave me or forsake me. Strengthen me to trust your timing and your direction. Guard my mind from discouragement when the way feels long or heavy. Walk with me through every valley, and help me rest in the assurance that I am never alone.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
