December is a special month for many people. For Christians, it is a time to remember that Jesus came to save us. This prayer guide is for students who are learning English (ELL and ESL students) or for people who like easy English. Each day has a short reading and a simple prayer. You can pray in a way that feels easy and natural. God always listens with love.
How to Pray with the ACTS Method
Prayer is a time where you can talk to God. You can use the ACTS method when you pray each day:
- A — Adoration (Praise God)
- C — Confession (Say sorry for wrong things)
- T — Thankfulness (Thank God)
- S — Supplication (Ask for help for yourself or others)
This prayer guide will:
- Give a Bible verse to think about.
- Give some extra information about the Bible verse.
- Give a list of questions to think about.
- Show an example of how to use the ACTS method to talk to God about the Bible verse.
- Give a link that will show you where the verse fits into the Bible.
If helpful, you can use a prayer journal template to help you write or say a prayer.
Week 1: Learning to Trust God While We Wait
Advent is celebrated during the four weeks before Christmas. This is a time when Christians wait for the coming of Jesus. Long ago God’s people waited for the Savior he promised. Jesus was that Savior. Now we wait for Jesus to come back again. This week we will learn about the hope God gives us. This hope is strong because God always keeps his promises. Even when waiting is hard, God is always with us.
Day 1: Finding Hope in God’s Words
Bible Verse:
“Hide me and protect me. I trust what you say.” – Psalm 119:114 (ERV)
About This Verse:
This verse teaches us that God keeps us safe. When we feel afraid, we can trust his words. God’s promises give us strength and hope.
Think About:
When you feel afraid, what do you do first?
Do you worry about the news or your own thoughts?
Which promise from God can help you feel safe today?
Talk to God:
Lord, you are my protector and my comfort.
