A Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
You are the one who assures us that our faith is not in vain. You are the eternal, unchanging, sovereign God—the one who set the stars in place and still sees the smallest ache of the human heart. You are not distant. You are not made of stone or imagination. You are the living God, and yet, in my fragile humanity, I confess that I sometimes forget.
So often, it is hard to trust that you are real, that you aren’t simply a figment of our imaginations. When I can’t see you, when my prayers seem to disappear into silence, when the world grows cold and confusing, I begin to doubt. Forgive me, Lord, for treating you like a vending machine or a genie, expecting you to respond in the ways I want or on the timeline I demand. Forgive me for forgetting that you are God and I am not.
Yet even in my doubts, I am thankful. Thankful that you do not turn away from the one who wrestles with belief. Thankful that you are patient and kind, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Thankful that your word tells me what faith really is—”the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) That verse would not be necessary if belief were always easy.
So, Lord, I ask: strengthen my faith. Convict me of your presence. Reassure me that I belong to you, even when I can’t feel it. When your answers to prayer come in the form of silence, teach me to listen. When your answer is “no,” help me to trust that it is still for my good. You are not absent or indifferent. You are unfolding a story that reaches far beyond what I can see.
You have not forgotten your people. You are not slow to fulfill your promise. You are giving space for repentance, for more to come to know you and be saved. Thank you for that mercy, even when it means waiting through pain. Help me not to get caught up in the darkness of this world, but to fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.
May I hold fast, even when belief feels like a battle. Sustain me until the day I see you face to face.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
