If you have been a Christian for long, you have probably heard a sermon or two on the differences between Mary and Martha, as described in Luke 10:38-42. In this passage, Martha welcomes Jesus and his disciples into her home, while her sister Mary chooses to sit and listen to Jesus rather than help with the preparations. Frustrated, Martha asks Jesus to tell Mary to assist her, but his response is not what she expects:

If you had been there, would you have sat at Jesus’ feet while he taught, or would you have been in the kitchen preparing supper for him and his disciples? Sermons on this passage often encourage us to be more like Mary, but I confess—I usually lean toward being a Martha! What about you?
